Graded Choir Program
Our graded choir program meets on Wednesdays at from September through February. Two choirs are a part of this program: Preschool Choir (for children ages 4-5) and Kids Praise (for children currently in grades 1-6).
The Preschool Choir meets in the 4s & 5s Sunday School room and is designed to create an environment where preschoolers learn that music can be fun and that we sing to worship God. It is not a performance choir but is a time which introduces the children to all aspects of music and includes activities that involve listening, moving, singing, using rhythm instruments and beginning theory. The activities are geared to their attention span and their need to be active. Our Preschool Choir is led by Judy Turner.
Kids Praise meets in the Choir Room and continues building the musical skills while learning spiritual truths through songs. As spiritual truths are set to rhythms and melodies, great life lessons are taught. This choir concentrates on helping each child develop a singing voice, a sense of steady beat, and fundamental music reading skills. These concepts are taught through music games, movement, and the use of a variety of instruments. This choir does share their music with our congregation during special worship times. Our Kids Praise is led by Anthony Turner.
Student Choir
The Student Choir is a project-based organization open to all students currently in grades 7-12. This choir meets during various segments of the year in preparation for selected projects or events such as mission trip, Coast-wide combined choir musicals, or participation in special worship services. Students are also encouraged to participate on a regular weekly basis in our Sanctuary Choir. For many years, students from our church have auditioned and been selected to be a part of the Mississippi Baptist All-State Youth Choir & Orchestra sponsored byt he Church Music Department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board. This is another tremendous opportunity for students to use their gifts and talents in music to tell others of our Lord. Anthony Turner, Minister of Music & Senior Adults directs the Student Choir.
Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir is composed of students (grades 8-12) and adults of all ages and is the primary worship choir of our church. Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from - in the Choir Room. This group of talented people is committed to preparing musically and spiritually for the great responsibility of leading worship during our 10:30 am Morning Worship Service each week and during special times of worship such as Christmas and Easter. Programs presented include, Christmas musicals, Hanging of the Green, The Living Last Supper, Easter musicals, theme-based worship experiences, and Classic Praise. There is no audition or membership requirements other than a willing spirit and an open heart to share God's great gift of music with others. The best way to indicate your interest is by attending a Wednesday rehearsal. A nursery is provided during rehearsals. The Sanctuary Choir is directed by Anthony Turner, Minister of Music & Senior Adults, and accompanied by Judy Turner, Pianist.
Senior Adult Inspirations Choir
If you are eligible for AARP, then you qualify to be a part of our senior adult Inspirations Choir. This group meets periodically to present special musicals and to lead in worship services of our church and other churches. The Senior Adult Choir participates in the annual State Senior Adult Choir Festival and has been the feature choir for various senior adult meetings and rallies. The choir is currently rehearsing each Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Join us for the fun and inspiration! Anthony Turner, Minister of Music & Senior Adults, directs this group.
